I metalli coinvolti hanno potenziali elettrochimici differenti. In questa coppia galvanica, il metallo con il potenziale pi\u00f9 negativo diventa l&#8217;anodo e si ossida, cedendo elettroni, mentre il metallo con potenziale pi\u00f9 positivo agisce come catodo e riceve elettroni.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;anodo subisce una graduale dissoluzione, con perdita di materiale, mentre il catodo rimane generalmente intatto o addirittura pu\u00f2 essere protetto dalla reazione galvanica.
